Our mission is to build the world’s most effective response to the global climate crisis.

We can shift the direction of the crisis within 60 months, abating one billion tonnes of CO2e per year, while benefiting one billion of the poorest families on the planet.

Over the past 36 months, we have tested Gigatonne in 72 cities worldwide. We are now working on the launch of the next phase, named Take-Off, in early 2024.

How does it work?

We train and finance teams globally to reduce, remove, and avoid GHG emissions at a pace aligned with science-based targets, while providing jobs, food and energy security to people in the bottom 20% of the socio-economic bracket.

These “Gigatonne Teams” work on waste management, building zero emissions transport networks, regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, land use, and carbon sequestration.

We specify seven performance levels for teams. Each performance level consists of temporal, emissions and equity targets.

All teams start at level one, and once a level is successfully completed, teams “graduate” to the next. From Level Three onwards, targets and financing increase tenfold (10x) at each subsequent levels.

We finance these teams through grants and a novel, high-integrity carbon credit called a “Super Credit”, generated through our “intelligent” platform [Gigatonne AI].

Our goal is to establish 1,000 teams, located in strategic climate flashpoints. Multiple Gigatonne Teams in aggregate add up to a global response to the climate crisis.
